15th December 2020
Online Event
The 10th edition of the National Laadli Media and Advertising Awards for Gender Sensitivity 2020 (NLMAAGS) was different from what Population First hosted in the last few years. In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, the event was held online on 15th December, 2020.
NLMAAGS 2020 was supported by the United Nation Population Fund (UNFPA).
Population First partnered with PLUC TV as our media partner.
The National Laadli Media and Advertising Awards event was graced by veteran journalist and Magsaysay Award winner Ravish Kumar who is a role model and an inspiration to many young journalists, as our Chief Guest. Saroj and Harjot Kaur from the UstadGah Foundation founded by Ustadma Zila Khan performed and enthralled the audience with songs from different genres and languages.
The National Awardees include some of the regional winners who are selected as deserving of a National Award by a fresh panel of distinguished jury members. It also includes awards for gender sensitive advertisements, books, films, and theatre that have attempted to break through gender biases. This year, three new categories of awards have been added - web series, film released on an OTT platform, and the most inspiring woman protagonist in a TV Serial.
Every year two awards are given to outstanding women who have excelled in their fields of work. For the National Laadli Media and Advertising Awards 2020, the ‘Laadli Lifetime Achievement Award’ was awarded to music composer Usha Khanna for succeeding in a male dominated field of music direction in Bollywood. Whereas the ‘Woman Behind the Scene’ award was presented to Reshma Pathan, the first female stunt artist in Bollywood.
The National Award event was covered by the media across the country, before and after the event. Ashwini Publicity handled the PR campaign for the same.
