International Day of the Girl Child- Population First is planning to celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child (IDGC) which is celebrated on 11th of October every year. It is to acknowledge the challenges the girls face, promote empowerment, need to fulfil basic human rights and also to ensure that all girls have access to quality education and a dignified life. In view of the COVID 19 pandemic situation, it has been proposed to celebrate the upcoming IDGC event, online on Tuesday, 13th October 2020.
The theme of the IDGC 2020 is, ‘My voice, our equal future’.
In keeping with this theme, Population First and UNFPA propose to invite the following performers, who will address/ voice gender issues through their performance, followed by a short interview with each artiste.
Preeti Das is the first stand-up comedian from Gujarat& co-founder of Mahila Manch. She has been a teacher of gender studies, media, journalism & culture. Ramya Pandyan, also known as Ideasmithy, is an avid blogger, a writer, digital strategist and performance artist. Manjul Bhardwaj from the Theatre of Relevance is a theatre Ideologue, whose plays force us to sit up and take cognizance of social issues. Arpana Rao a Kathak dancer from the Benaras & Jaipur Gharanas, is the Founder of the Arpana Mahuaa Nritya Academy (AMNA), who is a disciple of Pandita Uma Dogra.
