Media Awards honor, recognize and celebrate the efforts of those in media and advertising who highlight pressing gender concerns. It was launched in 2007. A year later, UNFPA joined Population First to make it a pan India event. Five annual awards events have been held so far with over 474 awards presented across 28 States and 6 Union territories of India, covering 13 languages. Close to 208 of the most distinguished names in Advertising, Film and Media were part of our jury. Many other media icons and artists across India supported the Laadli
campaign through sponsorships and free performances.Laadli
Media Awards are not an end in itself for us. It represents the culmination of a year long advocacy which starts with the widespread dissemination of the call for entries clearly delineating what is gender sensitive writing. Besides, directly contacting media persons, media networks and web sites are also used to reach out to reach out to as many journalists as possible.
Press conferences are held in all the major cities to announce the call for entries and are reported extensively in the media.
Language specific jury meetings are held in different cities to engage the local media leaders in the process of selection of winning entries.

Padma Bhushan Prabha Atre was presented the Laadli Lifetime
Achievement Award 2017
Padma Bhushan Prabha Atre is a renowned Hindustani classical music
vocalist and the senior most front ranking living legend of the Kirana
gharaanaa. She has donned many hats in her life; beyond her mainstay as
a performer she is also a researcher, academician, reformer, author,
composer and guru. In the past she has been an Assistant Producer with the
All India Radio as well as Professor and Head of the Department of
Post-Graduate Studies & Research in Music at SNDT Women's University,
Mumbai. Dr. Atre is an acclaimed guru both in performance and research,
being actively involved in music related academic activities like workshops, seminars
and teaching at foreign universities as a visiting professor. She has also set
up the 'Dr. Prabha Atre Foundation' that aims to promote the cause of
Indian classical music and performing arts. In addition to several regional
awards, Dr. Prabha Atre has been honoured with the highest national awards in
the country - `Padma Shree' and `Padma Bhushan' by the Government of
India, as well as `Sangeet Natak Akademi' Award and 'Tagore Akademi Ratna'
by the Central Sangeet Natak Akademi.

Ms.Kamla Bhasin was presented the Laadli Lifetime Achievement Award 2015-16
Kamla Bhasin is known for simplifying, yet not diluting, complex issues of gender, patriarchy, violence and oppression of different kinds. Her ability to blend art, music, dance and her kindred spirit into activism is well known across south asia and has won her many praises. She has brought together several organisations from neighbouring countries, even conflict ridden countries, to bridge a solidarity among feminists across borders. Feminists, both young and old, turn to Kamla for her support and her wisdom from having engaged with gender, inequality and injustice for several years. Her wit and clarity of thought are a beacon of hope for many across the subcontinent.
Through a career spanning five decades, Kamla has reached out to thousands of young people, activists, artists, feminists to spread her message of equality. She was among the first to articulate the harmful nature of patriarchy on men; while
simultaneously leading the discourse on violence against women and the need for solidarity across genders to end violence.
