These awards were instituted in 2007 with a view to engage Advertising and Creative professionals in developing appropriate communication and campaign material for campaigns against the pre-birth sex selection. They were required to submit entries under 12 categories viz., Posters, Outdoor Media, Print Ads, Cartoons, Innovative Merchandise, Storyboard of TVC, E-banners, Campaign Idea, Photographs, Lyrics, Films and Songs.the two rounds of awards yielded a large number of creative ideas, communication material and merchandise which are available to the public.
Panel of external jury members for both the editions comprised K.V. Sridhar- National Creative Director, Leo Burnett; M.G. The theme for this edition was “Stop Sex Selection” and the categories were posters, print ads, animation, films, storyboards, hoardings, innovative campaign ideas,poems,jingles etc . We received about 500entries out of which 113 entries were shortlisted by the jury 35 award winners were selected
The award function was held on Monday, June 30, 2008, at Y..B Chavan Auditorium in Mumbai with eminent personalities attending the event. Second edition of NCEA (2010-11)
The second edition of NCEA was launched in mid December 2010 where photography and e-banners were added to the existing categories. The theme here was “Pre-birth Sex Determination is a CRIME under the PCPNDT Act”. We received 900 plus entries in 8 different categories of which 136 were shortlisted. 26 entries were awarded under 7 categories
The award function was held on Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at Rama Watumull Auditorium (K. C. College) in Mumbai with Suresh Shetty (Hon. Minister of Health, Government of Maharashtra) was the Chief Guest. Frederika Meijer, (Representative and Country Director of United Nations Population Fund, India & Bhutan) was the Guest of Honor.Suhel Seth (Managing Partner of Counselage India) and Supriya Sule (Member of Parliament) were present as special guests.
The communication material and merchandise for the campaigns were widely promoted on various platforms. The merchandise were displayed during all internal workshops and regional and national events organized by Population First.
Like-minded NGOs, social enterprises, State Government departments/ institutions and corporates were approached to use and promote the merchandise and communication materials developed for the campaigns. A planner and a wall calendar were produced by the UNFPA on the promotion material.
