Ante-Natal and Post-Natal Care
Shahapur block registers high incidence of infant and maternal mortality, especially in tribal villages. Therefore, it is important to educate pregnant women, nursing mothers on ante-natal and post-natal care. Their families and their community need to be sensitized towards women’s health issues to ensure safe motherhood. Sessions for pregnant women and nursing mothers are conducted regularly on topics like immunization, nutrition, adequate rest, iron and folic acid supplements etc. The anganwadi worker, ANM and ASHA are involved in these sessions so they can learn to communicate with women on these issues. The objectives of ANC-PNC are;

  • Organizing meetings with pregnant women, nursing mothers, ANM and anganwadi worker
  • Discussing ante-natal and post-natal care and providing information on government schemes for pregnant women and nursing mothers
  • Monitoring the visits and immunization sessions conducted by ANM
  • Organizing community meetings for creating awareness about ANC-PNC and developing support for safe delivery

Indubai, a 50 year old woman said after attending the ANC-PNC session, “I did not have this important information so far. I will share this with my daughter-in-law.”
